VAUT was developed by Nadine Aurin during the creation of her collection 'Nutzmensch'. Seeking an accessible and ethical alternative to leather, Nadine explored the use of various materials. She ultimately chose red wine as the base for VAUT, connecting the material to the collection's focus on the slaughterhouse industry, where alcohol abuse among workers is prevalent.
The name VAUT is a combination of the words "Vegan" and "Haut" (German for skin), with the "V" also representing "Vino," symbolizing the material’s wine origin. VAUT is not only a cruelty-free alternative to animal leather, but it also emphasizes the social and environmental impact of industries where both human and animal suffering are common.
By using wine, VAUT aims to address the need for sustainable materials while shedding light on the challenges within the meat industry, offering a solution that is innovative, ethical, and biodegradable.
